Health requirements for skydiving

Skydiving is for every person who is brave enough to experience free fall - well, almost. More often than not, the minimum age requirement for skydiving is 18 years old. However, there are some places that allow 16-year olds to participate in the sport. On the other hand, skydiving has no maximum age limit. You can do so as long as you are physically fit, and not someone who will faint whilst dropping from the sky.

Given that this activity is adrenalin-producing, it is really not advisable to those who have a weak heart, especially those who have already experienced heart failure or an irregular heartbeat. Aside from that, those who also have respiratory illnesses must not undertake skydiving. The dropping altitude may effect some atmospheric changes. If this happens, people with respiratory conditions might have a hard time breathing while they drop from the plane’s height.

Skydiving is truly one activity that most people dream of experiencing. However, you must always put your health first, rather than insisting you do this activity just for the sake of a bit of fun and a new experience.

Of course, the healthier you are, the more you will get to enjoy falling from the plane and screaming your lungs out as you drop down.

Skydiving is one of the most thrilling experiences one could ever have. And just like any other adrenalin-rushing activity, one must take time in preparing for a sky dive before actually doing so.

First of all, if this is your first time sky diving, you will be given a lecture about the sport that would last for at least 4 hours. You have to learn and understand all the things that you must do while you are up there, and what the procedures are that must be done in order to land safely.

Aside from that, you will also get to try on the skydiving outfit and other equipment that can weigh as much as 35 pounds. You will be taught how to maneuver the canopy, open the parachute, and a lot more that you must remember, because these are the things that will save your life once you have jumped out of the plane.

Lastly, you must hand yourself over to a doctor before skydiving. This is to find out if you have any health conditions that might prevent you from sky diving. Pregnant women, people suffering from heart disease, those with asthma and the like, are usually not allowed to sky dive. Preparing to Skydive

Before you can sky dive, there are actually two questions that will be asked to help the experienced sky divers controlling your jump determine if you are capable to do this activity. The first is your health condition, and the other is your weight.

The weight of the skydiver is one of the main factors to consider before one can sky dive. Those who are overweight, as well as the underweight, have a higher risk of sustaining injuries upon landing. See the comments given by the skydiving pros regarding your weight and think if you are fit enough to skydive.

Those who weigh 200 to 230 pounds are very much welcome to sky dive as long as they are in good shape. Most skydivers actually recommend this weight range because it is not too light or too heavy.

On the other hand, for those who are between 230 to 250 pounds may also sky dive provided that they in really good shape. However, they are at risk for landing injuries, especially if they are not fit or athletic enough.

Unfortunately, it is rare for those who weigh 250 pounds or more be allowed to skydive. They have the biggest chance of obtaining an injury in case of a bad landing.

Common myths about skydiving

So you have watched the latest James Bond movie and saw how exciting skydiving is. However, thanks to Hollywood, people misunderstand skydiving. Most of the things that you see on screen are actually myths about this breathtaking experience.

Usually, you see actors talking while they skydive. This is definitely a myth. When you freefall, the wind is very loud. It is so loud that it would be almost impossible to communicate by talking. Note that skydivers freefalling in a group just use their hands to tell each other about their situation. It’s just too noisy to talk!

There is also no such thing as a freefall that lasts for more than three minutes. If you are not taking oxygen with you while you are on the plane, a single jump is only limited to an 80-second freefall time. Any longer would require the plane to go higher, necessitating oxygen as the air would be so rare.

It is also impossible to pull the parachute when you are just a few feet from the ground. To avoid injuries when landing, a sky diver must deploy his parachute around 2000 to 2500 feet.

Diving stunts, such as catching someone that does not have a parachute, only happens in movies. Although there are similar stunts that have been done before, it is practically impossible to hold onto somebody when opening the parachute because of the deployment shock.

Skydiving is one experience that can be considered priceless. However, before you begin to feel that way, you still have to pay for all the necessary fees before you can start freefalling from the plane.

The price of skydiving actually varies from one drop zone to another. More often than not, the price of the S/L course ranges from $120 to $150. Then, you also have to pay for the AFF course, which ranges from $250 to $300. And if you are still a beginner sky diver, don’t forget that you also have to pay for the tandem jump (when someone is strapped to you and controls the jump and landing), which is worth $140 up to $200.

If this is to be your first jump, there are some skydiving schools that have a video person on offer, so that the experience will be memorable. Let this exhilarating moment be captured and prepare to pay additional $50 to $75.

In case you get addicted to the adrenalin rush, you may opt to purchase your own skydiving gear, rather than renting it all the time. Some equipment starts from $200 up to $300. Of course, the higher the price, the better quality you will get.

Remember that anything priceless still has a price to pay, just like the cost of skydiving.
